A washer-dryer combination does both jobs in one drum, so it has the pump, door lock and inlet valve of a washer and the heater, fan and sensors of a dryer. The moist air from drying has to go somewhere, through a vent or a condensing system depending on the model, and that path needs to stay clear.
Houston humidity and hard water are both factors. Humid air slows drying, and scale on the heating element or inlet screens can cut performance over the years. Door gaskets in a warm laundry closet also collect lint and damp, which can cause odors and leaks.

Why does my combination machine wash well but not dry?
The drying part needs a working heater, a fan and a clear path for moist air to leave. A large load, a blocked path or a failed sensor can each stop it. We test those separately before we name the cause.
Can a combination machine dry a full load?
Combination machines usually dry a smaller load than they wash, so a full drum may stay damp even when nothing is broken. Check your owner's manual for the drying capacity, and tell us the load size when you book.
Is an older combination machine worth fixing?
It can be, if the drum, bearings and control are in good shape. We tell you honestly after testing, give the price in writing first, and say so when replacement makes more sense.
