When an ASKO Washer Will Not Spin: What to Check Yourself

An ASKO washer that stops before the spin leaves you with heavy, wet laundry. Here are the checks you can do safely and what points to a repair.

A washer that fills and washes but will not spin usually has a drain problem, an out-of-balance load or a door lock that did not register. The first two you can often fix yourself in a few minutes.

Checks You Can Do

  1. Open the door when the cycle pauses and look for standing water. If it is full, the machine is waiting to drain before it spins.
  2. Open the small panel at the lower front and clean the drain pump filter. Lay down a towel and a shallow pan first, since water will come out.
  3. Redistribute the load. One heavy item, such as a towel or rug, can stop the spin.
  4. Close the door firmly and start the spin again.

What the Signs Mean

A drain filter packed with coins, lint or socks explains a drain stop. A machine that tries to spin and shuts off after a few turns often has an unbalanced load, but it can also have worn shock absorbers or a drum bearing. A grinding or rumbling sound before the stop points to a bearing, and we would rather you not keep using it.

What Cannot Be Told From the Outside

The same stop can come from a pump, a motor control, a belt or a lock. We test each one rather than swap parts on a guess.

Many ASKO washers in Houston homes are 10 to 20 years old. When a repair does not make sense, we say so before any work begins. More details are on our ASKO washer repair page.

Write down what you saw before the stop: the water level, any sounds, and whether the display showed a message. Even a rough note helps. A washer that stops with water in the drum behaves differently from one that stops with the drum empty, and that detail often saves us a step.

Still stuck at the spin? Call us or use the online form, and we will confirm a three-hour arrival window.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
