What E23 means

A W5114RXLW or other ASKO W5 series washer shows E23 or E23.1 at the end of a program when the door is closed and the washer cannot unlock it. Your clothes stay inside, and the door will not open the usual way. The lock is meant to release when the drum has stopped and the water is drained.

Common causes of E23

  • Door lock that stays engaged
  • Lock release mechanism
  • Wiring at the lock
  • Control command that releases the lock
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch the washer off, then back on. 2. Wait for the drum to stop and check that the water has drained. 3. If the door will not open, follow STEP 7 in the owner's manual to open it manually. 4. If E23 returns, schedule service.

! Why to stop there
  • After you open the door by hand, we still need to learn why the lock did not release, so we test it
  • The lock and its wiring come first, and the control is tested last
  • The written price is shown to you before work begins, and 30 days of workmanship warranty protect the repair
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E23E23 questions
My ASKO washer door will not open and shows E23. Why?

It means the door is closed but the washer cannot unlock it. The lock stays engaged at the end of a program, so your laundry is stuck inside.

How do I get my clothes out?

The owner's manual describes a manual door-opening procedure in STEP 7. Make sure the drum has stopped and the water has drained before you try it.

Is E23.1 different?

It is a variant with the same meaning, and the same steps apply. If either version returns after a restart, we test the lock before it fails completely.
