What E1 means
An E1 on an ASKO T5 series tumble dryer (TD86 platform), for instance the T5HXLT.U, is a thermistor error. The thermistor is the sensor that reports the air temperature inside the dryer. If that report goes missing or looks impossible, the dryer cannot keep the drying heat in check, so the program ends and the code appears. Some displays add a sub-number after the E1.
Common causes of E1
- The temperature sensor itself giving no reading or a wrong one
- Wiring or a connector linking the sensor to the control board
- A temporary reading error that a restart clears
1. Switch the dryer off, give it a minute, then switch it back on. 2. Hold the OK button while the error shows to read the description on the display. 3. If the error appears again on a new cycle, stop running the dryer and book a visit. 4. Note any sub-number that follows the E1 and tell us when you book.
- Which of the sensor circuits is the one reporting the problem
- Whether the problem lies in the sensor, its leads or the board that reads them
- Whether the dryer heats safely once the sensor is replaced
Other Dryer codes
What does a thermistor do inside a dryer?
It is a small temperature sensor in the airflow. The control reads it many times a minute to keep drying heat in a safe range. E1 means that reading has failed or is unusable.
What are E1.1, E1.2 and E1.3?
They are sub-numbers of the same thermistor error, shown on the T5 display. All three point to the temperature sensor circuit, and the owner's manual gives the same steps for each.
