Why Your ASKO Dishwasher Leaves a White Film on Glasses

White film on glasses from an ASKO dishwasher usually comes from hard water or dosing, not a broken machine. A few checks separate the two.

A white, cloudy film on glassware is most often mineral residue from hard water, or too much or too little detergent for your water. It rarely means the dishwasher is broken. A few quick checks tell you which cause you have.

Try These First

  1. Rub a glass with white vinegar on a cloth. If the film wipes away, it is mineral scale.
  2. Check that the rinse aid reservoir is not empty.
  3. If your model has a salt reservoir, confirm it has salt. Houston water is often hard enough to use it up.
  4. Cut the detergent amount for lightly soiled loads.

What the Film Can Tell You

A film that wipes off with vinegar points to minerals. A film that stays and looks etched, almost like frosted glass, is permanent damage to the glass, and no machine setting will reverse it. Scale on the tub walls and the heating parts means the same minerals are collecting where you cannot see them.

What We Check

If the basic steps do not help, we look at the water softener setting if your model has one, the dispenser, and the heater and temperature sensor. A wash that never gets hot enough leaves residue even with the right products. We cannot judge that from the glassware alone, so we test the machine during the visit.

On an ASKO from the early 2000s or 2010s, worn dispenser seals and scaled heaters are common, and both are repairable in most cases. See our dishwasher repair page for more.

A simple test helps before you book. Wash one load with a little less detergent, a full rinse aid reservoir and, if your model has one, fresh salt. If the glasses come out clear, the machine was fine and the dosing was off. If they still cloud, the heating and water supply need a closer look.

Should the film come back after all this, call us or use the online form, and we will confirm a three-hour arrival window.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
