What E12 means
On an ASKO W5114RXLW or a sister W5 series model, E12 means the washer has a motor error or a problem in the circuit that controls the motor. The drum may not spin, may spin unevenly, or the program may stop partway through. Water can be left in the drum when it stops, so check the load before you restart.
Common causes of E12
- Motor and its connections
- Motor control circuit on the electronics
- Drive belt or drum that does not turn freely
- Overloaded or badly balanced load
1. Open the door once the drum has stopped and make sure the load is not packed or tangled. 2. Close the door and restart the program. 3. If E12 appears again, stop using the washer and schedule service, as the owner's manual recommends a technician for repeat errors.
- A restart that works once does not tell us whether the motor or its control caused E12, so we test both
- We check that the drum turns freely by hand before we point to the motor
- Parts are confirmed and the price is written before we begin, and we warrant the work for 30 days
Other Washer codes
E12 stopped my ASKO W5 washer. What happened?
It is a motor error, or a motor control error. The washer could not drive the motor the way the program asked, so it stopped and showed the code.
Could a heavy load cause E12?
It can strain the motor, so unload and rebalance the washer, then restart. If E12 comes back with a small, even load, the motor or its control needs testing.
Is it safe to keep trying the program?
One restart is fine. Repeated tries with the same error can wear the motor or its control further, so after a second E12 we suggest waiting for service.
Still seeing E12?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
