What F40 means

F40 is the inlet valve leakage message on ASKO dishwashers with the F-code display, including the DBI564IS.U, DBI564TS.U and DBI564PS.U and the DFI and DSD models. It means the control sensed water arriving while the inlet valve was supposed to be shut. Because more water could follow, the program is stopped. The owner's manual tells you to turn off the water supply valve and contact customer care.

Common causes of F40

  • An inlet valve that no longer seals when it is closed
  • Scale or grit holding the valve open a crack
  • Supply pressure higher than the valve can hold back
  • The control leaving the valve circuit energized
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Shut the water supply valve to the dishwasher first. 2. Dismiss the message with any button. 3. Check the floor and the cabinet under the dishwasher for water. 4. Keep the supply closed and the machine idle until it has been inspected.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether the valve itself leaks or the control keeps it energized
  • Whether water has already collected under the machine
  • Whether your home's pressure is adding to the problem
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
F40F40 questions
What happens if I ignore F40?

Water that keeps passing the valve can fill the tub and then the base of the dishwasher, so the real risk is a leak onto your floor. Closing the supply valve is the simplest protection.

Do I have to replace the whole dishwasher?

Usually not. The inlet valve is a replaceable part. We confirm the part and give you a written price before any work, and we tell you plainly if an older machine is not worth repairing.

How soon should I act?

Close the supply valve today, then ask for a visit by calling us or sending the online form.
