What THERMISTOR FAULT means
On an older ASKO W6641 or W6661, the LCD text display shows a thermistor message when the washer cannot read its temperature sensor. A thermistor is the small sensor that reports the water temperature. Without a reading the washer cannot heat safely, so it stops the program. Power off or a different program clears the message, but it returns if the sensor circuit still has a problem.
Common causes of THERMISTOR FAULT
- Thermistor that gives no reading or a wrong one
- Connector or wiring to the thermistor
- Control input that reads the thermistor
1. Turn the power off to clear the message. 2. Start a program again to see whether the message returns. 3. If it does, stop using the washer and schedule service; the owner's manual points to a service technician for this message.
- A brief power-off can clear the message once, but a sensor circuit that is open will bring it back
- We test the thermistor reading and its wiring before we blame the control
- Since the washer is older, we confirm the sensor is available before repairing and quote a written price

What is a thermistor in my ASKO washer?
It is a small sensor that tells the washer the water temperature. The control uses the reading to heat the water and to stop it from overheating.
What happens if I ignore the thermistor message?
The washer may refuse to run programs that need heating. Ignoring the message does not fix the sensor, so a visit saves you from repeated stopped loads.
Is this the same as E1 on newer ASKO washers?
They point to the same area, the temperature sensor, on different generations. The older W6641 and W6661 print the message in words, and the newer ones show a code.
